Requirements and Application

The Mobile Robotics study program addresses highly motivated students with an excellent Bachelor’s degree in computer science, geodesy, or related subjects such as electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or similar. Students are expected to have a background in mathematics, programming (e.g., Python), and basic engineering skills.

The program is currently in the accreditation process. Formal accreditation is expected in April.

  • Non-EU/EWR citizens from February 2025 till 30th June 2025
  • EU/EWR citizens from February till 30th August 2025

Requirements

All applicants have to fulfill academic and language requirements.

Language Requirements

Applicants must provide proof of their English skills. The niveau has to be minimun B2 and can be fulfilled by tests or ceritfied language of the Bachelor degree.

  • TOEFL paper-based: 575 points
  • TOEFL internet-based: 90 points
  • IELTS: 6.5

Native English speakers; German, Swiss, Austrian citizens with Abitur/Matura; and students who received their first degree entirely in English do not have to submit language certificates.

Academic Requirements

In detail applicants must fulfill the following requirements according to § 5 of the Examination geulations of the Master's Program Mobile Robotics.

The university degree must have been completed with a grade of at least 2.5 (minimum grade is subject to change). The grade is calculated using the modified bavarian formula during the application process

  1. A total of at least 18 credits from Mathematics
  2. A total of at least 6 credits from Programming
  3. Additional achievements from at least one of the subject areas
    1. Mathematics, 
    2. Programming, 
    3. engineering sciences,
    4. Physics,
    5. computer science and
    6. Geodesy

The students must achieve in total at least 26 credits from the areas 3a - f.

4. An academic thesis worth at least 10 credits.

Application

The Master's Degree Program "Mobile Robotics" is an open-admission program. However, both academic and language requirements must be fulfilled.
The Application is made via the Application Portal of the University of Bonn.

Based on the application documents, the examination board will decide your eligibility for the Master's Program.

Mandatory Documents for your Application (in English)

All documents have to be certified. See list below.

Please note, we do not consider GRE scores.

In case you have not yet finished your bachelor's studies before the application deadline expires, you can apply without a final bachelor's certificate. We'll check your application preliminary, using the documents you provide up to that time. Please note that the final bachelor's certificate needs to be submitted within the first semester of your studies!

We only accept official transcripts of records from the university you graduated from in English or German. The transcript MUST display names and credit points according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) for each individual course you have covered during your studies.

If you got your first degree entirely in English you do not have to submit language certificates. Please provide an official document which proves the language of instruction, e.g., diploma supplement or exam regulations. Also native English speakers; German, Swiss, Austrian citizens with Abitur/Matura do not have to submit language certificates. Everybody else need to proof of their English skills by TOEFL or IELTS.

The CV should display in a short way your education, programming skills and if present work expierience.

ATTENTION: The application will not be possible from 5th May till 15th May 2025 due to technical issues.
